NEWTON — Local resident Gary Mitchell saved an impressive $2.04 on gasoline Sunday after driving 47 miles to a station where fuel was 12 cents cheaper.
Mitchell discovered the price difference using an app and immediately drove across two counties, consuming approximately two gallons of gasoline during the round trip. He dismissed suggestions that fuel consumption, vehicle depreciation and nearly an hour of his life might have eliminated the savings.
“It’s the principle,” Mitchell said, looking proudly at the receipt.
Mitchell then entered the convenience store and spent $6.87 on beef jerky and a Mountain Dew.
